List of Dairy Farm Machinery

A list of dairy farm machinery would include several types of equipment not found on a non-dairy farm. This specialized machinery includes milkers, coolers, and storage tanks.

List of Dairy Farm Machinery

In order to prepare a list of dairy farm machinery, it is first necessary to consider what is involved in a dairy operation. The milk producers on the dairy farm are the cows. These animals need to be fed and housed in an environment that encourages milk production. In order to provide for the needs of the milk cows, much equipment common to any farm is needed. This includes such items as tractors and balers. This type of equipment is generally not included in the list of specific dairy farm machinery although they are found on the dairy farm.

The next group of equipment on your list would include the milkers. These machines have replaced the human, three legged stool, and wooden bucket in the process of removing the milk from the udders of the cows. Unfortunately, the cows are unable to approach the milking machines and attach themselves to them, so humans are still needed in the milking process. The milking machinery uses vacuum to suck the milk from the cows and transfer it via tubing to a central holding tank.

It is important that the milk be cooled until it is transferred from the storage tanks to trucks that carry it to the dairy where it is processed. A list of dairy farm equipment would include cooling devices. Stainless steel is the material of choice for most holding tanks and transfer tubing. Since absolute cleanliness is essential to a dairy farm operation, stainless steel is an ideal material.

Other groups of machinery on the dairy farm equipment list would include testing equipment. A lab is not unusual on the dairy farm. Samples of the milk can be removed from the storage tanks after every milking cycle to check for buttermilk levels and any abnormal bacteria levels or foreign substances.

The final group of equipment on your list would be equipment related to the care of the cows themselves. Feeding equipment and cleaning equipment are standard in a dairy farm. The cows represent the income producers and their care is of paramount importance. A dairy farm is a very unique type of farm, although it is similar to chicken farms where eggs are the products. The importance of keeping the livestock healthy and productive and the need to insure the highest standards of safety and sterilization require a long list of special machinery.
